Recall to Replace the Propane Gas (LP) Conversion Kit on Tankless Water Heaters (Model NPE-180A and NPE-180S) and Combination Boilers (Model NCB-180E) Manufactured from 07/09/2018 through 10/14/2018.
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Navien, Inc. has, on its own decision, proactively initiated a voluntary recall on the Propane Gas (LP) Conversion Kit for the Navien Condensing Tankless Water Heater (Model NPE-180A and NPE-180S), and Navien Condensing Combination Boiler & Water Heater (Model NCB-180E).
If your product is running on natural gas, your product is NOT fitted with a conversion kit and this recall does not affect you. The issue is with the conversion kit installed on the tankless water heaters and boilers to convert them from natural gas to propane. The conversion kit can cause the unit to produce excessive amounts of carbon monoxide.
If you are using propane gas, there is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if it is not properly vented. Navien has not received any reports of injuries or incidents. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled water heaters and boilers that are using propane gas and contact Navien. Consumers who continue use of the water heaters and boilers while awaiting repair, should have a working carbon monoxide alarm installed outside of sleeping areas in the home. Navien will coordinate the repair, which should take less than 1 hour, at Navien’s expense.
